Date & Times: Saturday January 28, 2012, 12:30 to 3:30pm
You will need to bring: A hiker’s compass (Suunto or Silva type with a transparent base plate, with or without a mirror). Your favourite map of the country you normally traverse
I will provide: Your course handout package, including workbook and check-tag to attach to your compass cord.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of today you will be able to carry out the following:

- Use contour information to choose the best route to travel up and down hill.
- Compensate for the difference between true, magnetic and grid north
- Orient a map to true north using a compass
- Transfer a bearing from map to field and follow it to your destination
